Braves Clinch No. 7 in Nine Years. Last Season They Missed October Entirely.
At Daikin Park in Houston on Sunday, the Braves beat the Astros 4-2 to clinch the NL East — their first division title since 2023 and their seventh in the last nine seasons. One year after finishing 76-86 and missing the playoffs completely, Atlanta is back on top under first-year manager Walt Weiss.
Martin Pérez started and worked around trouble all afternoon; Víctor Mederos came on in the fifth with the bases loaded and one out and escaped it, striking out José Altuve and getting a groundout from Yainer Díaz. The Braves broke it open in the sixth: a four-run inning capped by Mike Yastrzemski's three-run homer, which turned a tight game into the lead they wouldn't give back. Dylan Dodd struck out the side in the ninth to close it out. Final: Braves 4, Astros 2 — a series sweep of Houston that finished Atlanta's season at 92-64.
Tied for the Most Division Titles in Baseball History
This is Atlanta's 19th NL East crown and its 24th division title overall since divisional play began in 1969 — tied with the Dodgers for the most in MLB history. It's the Braves' seventh NL East title in nine seasons, but the turnaround is what makes this one different: in 2025 this team finished 76-86 and didn't sniff the postseason. "I really felt like we took it to another level," manager Walt Weiss said after the game. "I think we've got to keep our foot on the gas."
The Sixth Inning That Decided It
A highlight reel shows you Yastrzemski's swing. A scorecard shows you the whole afternoon — Pérez working out of jams, Mederos's bases-loaded escape in the fifth, the four-run sixth that flipped the game, and Dodd striking out the side to lock up the division.
